Medan, dahsyatnews.com – Seminar “Pesan di Balik Lensa: Jurnalisme Empati Bencana Sumatera” yang digelar Pemko Medan bersama STIKP Medan, Selasa (3/2), menyoroti pentingnya jurnalis melaporkan bencana dengan pendekatan empati. Kegiatan berlangsung di Aula Hj. Ani Idrus dan dirangkai dengan pameran foto jurnalistik bertema kebencanaan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran sosial masyarakat.
Seminar menekankan bahwa penyampaian informasi yang akurat dan empatik menjadi kunci bagi pemerintah memahami persoalan masyarakat secara menyeluruh. Foto dan liputan lapangan dinilai tidak hanya memiliki nilai artistik, tetapi juga berfungsi sebagai dokumentasi sejarah dan bahan pertimbangan kebijakan publik.
Kepala Dinas Komunikasi dan Informatika Kota Medan, Arrahmaan Pane, mengatakan, “Pemerintah Kota Medan sangat mendukung kegiatan jurnalistik seperti ini. Peran jurnalis sangat penting dalam menyampaikan informasi penting, terutama dalam situasi bencana yang sering kali tidak sepenuhnya terpantau oleh pemerintah.”
Ia menambahkan bahwa kontribusi civitas akademika STIKP Medan, terutama alumni yang kini berkiprah di lingkungan Pemko Medan, mampu memberikan perspektif lebih komprehensif terhadap persoalan sosial di tengah masyarakat.
Seminar menghadirkan fotografer jurnalistik Ferdy Siregar dan filmmaker Mirza Baihaqie sebagai narasumber. Mirza menyebutkan bahwa kegiatan ini bukan sekadar membahas teknik fotografi, melainkan juga menumbuhkan empati terhadap korban bencana. Ia berbagi pengalaman lapangan mengenai dampak ekonomi pascabencana, termasuk sulitnya akses bahan pangan dengan harga yang melonjak.
Sementara itu, Ferdy menegaskan pentingnya kesiapsiagaan dan mitigasi bencana. “Penanganan darurat memang melibatkan banyak pihak, namun tanpa mitigasi yang kuat, dampak bencana akan terus berulang dan semakin besar,” ujarnya.
Kegiatan ini juga dihadiri Kepala Bidang Kerja Sama, Pengendalian, dan Evaluasi BPBD Sumatera Utara, Robert Effendi Purba. Selain seminar, pameran dan lelang foto kebencanaan digelar, dengan hasil penggalangan dana yang akan disalurkan kepada korban banjir di sejumlah wilayah di Sumatera.
Langkah ini diharapkan dapat mendorong jurnalis lebih peka terhadap kondisi masyarakat terdampak bencana, sekaligus menyediakan data dan dokumentasi yang bermanfaat bagi pengambilan kebijakan pemerintah daerah.
